Your Mortar & Pestle Starts Here

Prepare your natural granite mortar and pestle before its first use, learn how to care for it, and register your 1-year limited warranty.

Before First Use

Rinse

Rinse the mortar and pestle thoroughly with warm water. Use a clean, soft brush to remove loose stone particles. Do not use a dishwasher, bleach or harsh cleaners.

01

Grind Dry Rice

Add a small handful of dry, uncooked white rice. Grind firmly across the entire inner surface until it becomes a fine powder. Discard and repeat until the powder appears mostly white, usually two or three rounds.

02

Rinse and Dry

Rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove all rice powder. Allow both pieces to air-dry completely before use or storage.

03

Optional Conditioning

Grind a small amount of garlic with coarse salt, discard the mixture, then rinse and dry thoroughly. Skip this step when you prefer to avoid residual garlic aroma.

04

Your Barroka mortar and pestle is now ready to use.

What to Avoid

Storing the mortar, pestle or wooden base while damp.

Quick Troubleshooting

Why is the rice powder grey?

The first batches collect residual stone dust. Continue with fresh rice — powder becomes mostly white.

Is it dishwasher safe?

No. Hand-wash and air-dry completely.

Can I use dish soap?

Use only a small amount of mild, unscented soap when needed.

How do I clean the wooden base?

Wipe with a damp cloth and dry immediately. Do not soak.
